The announcement was made this week that TAP Air Portugal will be moving its Cape Verdean office from Praia to Sal. In Praia, the airlines main delegate will cease her functions as of July. Two other employees will be dismissed, and a third will have to move along with the agency to Sal.
The new TAP delegate, José Júlio, arrived this week in Praia to learn first-hand about the operations of the Cape Verde office. After returning to Lisbon, he will be back in Cape Verde next month to head the new office on the island of Sal.
, Current TAP delegate Conceição Melo, a long-time employee of the airline, is expected to remain in Praia, which automatically implies her retirement. Two other employees, Carlos Santos and Odelize Pires, are awaiting official word of their layoff, as so far all communication in this respect has taken place by telephone. Administrator Jorge Neves is expected to move to Sal to continue working for the company.  , The airlines employees in Praia complain that they have been kept on the sidelines during the Portuguese airlines strategic move, and believe that they deserved better treatment.  , TAPs decision to move its Cape Verdean offices to Sal comes following an accord between the Portuguese airline and TACV Cabo Verde Airlines, by which TAP will continue operating flights between Cape Verde and Portugal from the Sal International Airport, while TACV will handle the direct flights from Praia to Lisbon following the opening of the new Praia International Airport. |
