Even without having improved its score, the Cape Verdean national soccer selection rose two spots on the FIFA ranking for August. Cape Verde rose to 112th position, with the same 296 points as in July. The “improvement” can be explained by the poor performance over the past month by Estonia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, both of which were close to Cape Verde on the FIFA classification table. In Africa, Cape Verde is in 29th place, immediately behind Malawi and immediately ahead of Rwanda. Ivory Coast, meanwhile, is the main highlight on the continent, coming in at 20th worldwide, eight points behind Bulgaria (860 in comparison to 852). Angola also leaped ten slots on the FIFA ranking, coming in at number 92. |
