Eva Sanches, a native of Santa Catarina on the island of Santiago, will take part in the 1,500-meter race today, August 18, at the Berlin World Athletics Championship in Germany. The athlete has been in Europe since the beginning of July to prepare for her debut in the tournament. Eva Sanches is the first of Cape Verde’s two representatives to go into action at the Berlin World Athletics Championship. On August 23, the last day of the competition, fellow Cape Verdean Nelson Cruz will run the marathon wearing Cape Verde’s colors. Meanwhile, the Olympic and world triple jump champion, Nélson Évora, who represents Portugal, will dispute the triple jump today as well. The Portuguese athlete of Cape Verdean descent told Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola that he is anxious but concentrated. Évora knows that he will have to beat his own records in order to engrave his name in the sport once again. “In the end, my main objective is to win, and my second objective is to beat my own personal record. If I don’t win but do improve my score, I’ll be satisfied. But the main thing is to defend the Osaka title. As far as my main adversaries are concerned, I have no opinion. They’re all on par with one another. This year there are several with 17.6 or better,” he affirmed. |
