Manuel Inocêncio Sousa is the candidate the PAICV will support in the upcoming presidential elections. Sousa has just been chosen by the governing party’s National Council, which is meeting at the National Assembly.

In a process in which three hopefuls – Manuel Inocêncio Sousa, David Hopffer Almada and Aristides Lima – were vying for the PAICV’s political support in the upcoming presidential race, the outgoing Minister of Infrastructures, Transportation and Telecommunications prevailed.

In the first round of internal voting, Aristides Lima was the least-voted of the three, but neither of the other two managed to obtain the absolute majority of votes from the members of the National Council. As such, a second round of voting was held between Inocêncio Sousa and Hopffer Almada. In the second round of voting, Sousa received 57 votes against Almada’s 30. Three members of the National Council submitted blank ballots.
