A blend of rhythms, styles and cultures, allied with a focus on environmental issues, will be the trademark of the 21st edition of the Santa Maria music festival, slated to take place on the 17th and 18th of this month.

The line-up includes Cape Verdean groups T-Cla 2, Cordsas do Sol, Boss AC, Os Kings and Cabossom, as well as Kimany Marley, the son of reggae legend Bob Marley.

Also features will be an all-star group of Sal-based musicians, Gilyto Semedo, Maria de Barros, Publish the Quest, Grace Évora, Zé Delgado, Kino Cabral and Brazilian band Maria Caipirinha.

With a 20 million-escudo budget, this year’s edition has as its theme “Protect the Environment and Guarantee the Future,” the idea of which is to call attention to climate problems cause by the “negative actions of man.”

This year’s edition of the festival will pay homage to Agostinho Fortes, a musician and National Meteorology Service specialist.
