The lineup for this year’s edition of the Santa Maria festival has been announced. On its twentieth anniversary, the event hopes to pay homage to the island that has made it all possible, with the theme “20 years of success – a tribute to Sal.”

After the 25th anniversary of São Vicente’s Baía das Gatas festival this year, it is now Sal’s turn to commemorate the anniversary of its own music festival.

The lineup promises to be one of the best of recent times, with important names hailing from both Cape Verdean and abroad and featuring musical styles ranging from reggae and zouk to axé music and traditional Cape Verdean genres.

Ky-mani Markey, the son of the legendary Bob Marley, Mayra Andrade, Sara Tavares, Boss AC and Natinho da Bahia are among the headliners at this year’s festival. But many other names promise to keep the crowd alert on its 20th anniversary, including Grace Évora, Beto Dias, Nelson Freitas, Johnny Ramos and Zé Delgado.

The festival will take place on September 11 and 12 and, contrary to announcements made earlier this year, will be held on the same stage as in years past in Santa Maria. The complete lineup may be found at the festival’s web site, www.festivaldemusicasm.com.
