The 22nd edition of the Curraletes festival takes place next weekend on the island of Santo Antão. In a change from previous years, the event will last only two days. Senegal-born Cape Verdean artist Boy G Mendes will be the main headliner at this year’s edition of the festival.

Rildo Tavares, the director of the department of culture at the Porto Novo municipal chamber, says that all is in place for this year’s edition of the Curraletes festival, which takes place on the beach of the same name. This year, the event will last only two days, a result of the reduction in sponsors.

On Friday, August 14, Porto Novo-based band Rolling Stones (not to be confused with the British band of the same name) will open the festival, followed by Mindel Som (from São Vicente), Irmãos Unidos (Porto Novo) Rutera (Brazil) and Constantino Cardoso (São Vicente).

Saturday will see Harmonia (Porto Novo), Cordas do Sol (Paúl, also on Santo Antão), and pop artists David Brazão and Zé Delgado. Boy G Mendes, who this year is the festival’s headliner, will close the event.
