Anti-cyclone causes 69-km per hour winds in Cape Verde

Cape Verde has been under the effects of an Azorean anti-cyclone since Saturday. Winds have been gusting at a speed of between 28 and 38 knots, the equivalent of between 50 and 69 kilometers an hour. The weather will remain unpleasant until midnight Tuesday, May 6.

The sky in Cape Verde is currently cloudy with clear spots, and visibility is moderate due to haze, and could get worse as a result of the dust kicked up by the wind. Raquel Gonçalves of the National Meteorology and Geophysics Institute says that the wind is the result of an Azores anti-cyclone. "We advise people not to go out to sea, which is rough and with 2 to 3.5-meter-high waves coming from the northeast."
